Content Warnings: Genji has gone through dismemberment of limbs and wounds of torso and more at the hands of his brother, leaving him for dead when he was younger. The world his is from is in crisis and has been through a lot of war time issues. Mostly with robotic beings called Omnics. There is injustice, racism and predigest against omnic kind in his world. So other than maybe some mention of that, no, not really.

Personality:
Genji is a fun kind of guy. He may not be as outgoing as he was in his youth, but he’s still a happy and friendly guy. It’s all thanks to how his life has worked out, settling down in Nepal and studying with the monks. His master Zenyatta was the biggest influence who never gave up on him when he was aggressive and hopeless, which helped shape him into the man he is today (or as Genji may joke, a “Green Cyborg Ninja Dude”)
When he was younger he was playful and outgoing, a ‘playboy’ that upset the others in his clan with his reckless and carefree ways. He often acted in ways that embarrassed those of his clan, not caring for the illegal family business nor taking responsibilities like the son of the clan leader should. Instead he enjoyed a life of privilege.
Since then, he has been on a rollercoaster of drastic emotions: going from aggressive and vengeful to a deep dislike of himself, finding it hard to believe he still had a soul or was even human, seeing as he had lost most of his flesh and bone after a violent conflict with his older brother Hanzo. Hanzo confronted Genji after the death of their father, requesting him to take things more seriously and take on more responsibilities. Genji did not agree, bringing the brothers into a fight that left the ninja on the brink of death. It created a great impact in his life that he almost didn’t recover from if it wasn’t for the saving grace of Doctor Ziegler and Overwatch rescuing him and piecing him back together.
While working for Blackwatch [a secret part of Overwatch] he was considered a living weapon, able to get in, follow orders and get a job done with stealth and accuracy. While he was not unfriendly with any of them he was also not close to many of them, mostly focused on wanting to take down the Shimada clan and leaving. Before he could leave Overwatch was taken apart and he was let go.
It is wandering in his travels, annoyed, upset and envious to those who still were human, that he ran into the one to save him. It was Zenyatta that helped teach him that one can still be human even if there was nothing ‘human’ left of his body. The Shambali believed that they had souls and that teaching helped Genji accept himself. It took him a while to accept Zenyatta’s beliefs but he soon did, even to the point of calling his Master.
Even in acceptance, he can be wary about where he belongs. He’s not exactly Omnic, but not fully human either. He does his best though, trying not to bring attention to himself in most cases. He wants to be accepted and trusted enough to be able to help others. There is a great divide between Omnic and Humans thanks to the Omnic crisis and long time battling. With few places that support having Omnic around it is hard to feel comfortable when you are mostly cybernetic but were once human.
Because of the Shambali teachings, Genji is very forgiving now. This, however, was not always the case. He tore down the Shimada clan as soon as he could for what they were and what they did to him. He was angry at his brother for nearly killing him as well. Now, after spending time learning and letting go, he just wants Hanzo to forgive himself. After meeting with him and revealing to his brother that he was still alive, he told him as much, and hoped, in turn, that Hanzo could forgive himself and heal. Genji has already long ago forgiven his brother.
Being able to forgive Hanzo was the first step to understanding that second chances were important, and holding a grudge would benefit no one at all. This was also thanks to Master Zenyatta, who helped him lose his anger and mistrust and free himself of his pains.
Genji is level headed and calm, able to focus himself with ease. Sitting still for long periods of time and being patient comes easy to him now, though it might not have when he was much younger, wild and free spirited. Still easy going, he knows when to be a clown and when to be serious, especially in bad situations. He might still crack jokes (“My Halloween costume? Cyborg ninja!”) and tease in the middle of battle, but he doesn’t let it distract him and he never teases in malice.
Speaking of battle, Genji holds a strong confidence in his abilities. That, at least, is something he has held over from when he was young. He’s always been self assured about his talents in ninjutsu; in his speed and agility, and his swordsmanship. He knows he can be swift and deadly, and will say as much if he needs to. It’s the one area he feels completely confident in. He’s very prideful in this fact, and though that could pull him down when meeting someone of equal or better skill, he still trusts in his abilities, even with the enhancements done to his body. A good number of his voice lines are of him taunting others to prove themselves better than he.
He tries his best not to kill now, finding other ways around it in battles. He would rather spare someone's life in the hope that they can reform than take a life needlessly. Though he is trained as a ninja and has the abilities to fight, he would rather not if it can be helped. He cares deeply for life and those who still have the chance to live it.
He has been shown to care for people that have shown him the slightest bit of caring, respect or trust as well. Once befriended by Genji, he will work with them and protect them if he can, which wasn’t always the case in past years. While in Overwatch he didn’t get too incredibly close to people; these people were a means to an end. Now? He would be more accepting of these people and even more interested in each of them.
Here he would have a fresh start. It’s a bit more welcoming at times and it’s not ‘home’. No one knows what he or what he’s done or seen in the past. There is the chance that he can help others as well- Genji doesn’t like to see people suffer and would do what he could to stop it. He knows what it’s like to suffer and being able to help ease the pain of others would be one very small way to ‘pay it forward’ from all the support and help he’s received over the years.
Genji is a man who’s struggled with a hard past that he mostly brought on to himself. He has had a lot of help getting past those hardships, has learned a lot, and is a strong believer in change, forgiveness and second chances. He’s still a little sheltered from having to relearn to be human again, but he’s not blind to the world. He doesn’t care for attention brought to himself but enjoys giving attention to other people. He’s friendly and kind and willing to work with other. He believes others can better themselves if they just try.
Abilities/Powers/Weaknesses & Warping:
Genji is, in short, a ninja. While still human he trained as a ninja, using swords and shuriken as well as swift speed to get around his targets.
Some of his ninja skills in game are simple. He is vastly talented in throwing shuriken in quick succession or in a wider spread to attack others. The throwing stars appear to fit within his armored hands and arms, dropping out in three at his knuckles to his fingers for ease of throw. He is almost always accurate in his throws.
He is very talented with deflecting oncoming objects with swipes of his swords, shooting the projectile back at it's original owner. This counts as bullets, arrows, or other things of substance. He of course can't deflect non-physical things. As well as blocking or deflecting things shot at him he is very swift with his swords, able to slash through targets blocking his way with ease. This comes from his super swiftness.
His ultimate ability is the Dragonblade, in which he unsheathes his ōdachi and focuses the energy through it, waving the sword to direct a brilliant green illusion of a dragon where he desires. Only a Shimada can control the dragons. Genji's dragon is The Dragon of the North Wind, as told in the story Dragons. It is a very powerful weapon and attack if needed but he rare will draw the Dragon out unless really needed. It is not shown in game or said in canon but I like to think the sword helps focus the summoning of the dragon. We see that Hanzo can call the dragon from his tattoo and focus it into his arrow. I like to play at the idea that Genji doesn't have his own tattoos anymore and needs to focus it through the sword in order to control it properly. He can summon it without the sword but it's dangerous and might wear him out easier.
TO NERF THIS:
Nerfing the Dragonblade, I would like to have the dragon still come out, but instead of a huge glowing green dragon that's frightening and all and can do major damage, I want him to summon a small green dragon that's rather cat like and a bit harmless. So his Dragonblade does no damage at all. It will just be a small cat like noodle dragon that comes and goes.
Genji is (approximately) 80% cybernetic with most of his body having been rebuilt and enhanced. Meaning he tends to be faster, stronger, and more durable than a normal human. He can climb up the sides of buildings, trees and other objects with ease. He can jump long distances with barely any push off or resistance and land with brilliant balance. His Cyber-Agility is well suited to his ninja like evasive fighting style, leaving him swiftly running, dodging and ducking away from attacks.

Random Horror Post:
All nerve endings were firing on him painfully, making his arms twitch with every burning jump of a nerve. They felt like they were on fire, and all over his body. In his mind he knew it was just his brain, thinking that they were on fire. That they were alive at all to twitch. In reality, on only had so many nerve endings left. So much body to hurt. But here he was feeling it in his feet, his legs and limbs in general.
It made his groggy head hurt and thud, forcing himself to open his eyes and look.
As he looked, his vision felt foggy and unclear. He felt as if his head was light and swimming, looking up at a figure standing over him. "H-Hanzo?" He called out, his voice cracking and sounding wet. Bloody. the figure stood there, sword in hand, breathing as heavy as Genji was. He could see the sword drop in slow motion, clattering to the mat floor. Saw the dark look in his brothers face, before watching him walk away.
Not again.
Not this again!
Genji tried to sit up but his arm failed him. Only one would work, pushing him to sit up a few inches, at an angle, looking at his bloody and broken body. No wonder he was burning in pain. He felt as if he were living in a fire once again. Every nerve screaming at him. His body cut to ribbons once again, and the burn of his brother walking away from him.
"Hanzo!" He tried to scream, but it came out as a simple yell of pain and a gurgle of blood. His arm gave out and he fell down once again, pain firing through his entire body. He coughed blood and felt his collapsed lung fight him for breath.
Breath. He breathed heavy, feeling as if he were drowning in blood. His head felt too heavy now to lift. He screamed again, bubbling blood from his lips. Fighting. Fighting to stay alive like he did before. He had already been through this. All of this. He had dealt with this near death before, and yet here he was, reliving it.
And that was all it was. Reliving the pain of that night once more. Genji sat up suddenly, hand flying to his chest and holding it, metal on metal of his armor. He grasped for the metal plating, removing it, as if it were too much on his right now, or as if he wanted to see if he were hurt or not. Removing the chest plate he looked down, gasping. Gasping for air... with no trouble. His lung was still working. He inhaled too much and felt light headed.
Placing the chest plate to the side he rested a hand on a bare bit of flesh, sliding his fingers under the mesh netting over it. he took in a deep breath, calming himself, much like his Master had taught him. It had been forever since he had a nightmare like that. He had managed to control it but this? This burned. Felt real. It felt as if he were reliving it all over again.
Another breath and he calmed more, wide awake for the night.

Are you comfortable with prominent elements of fourth-walling?: Yes!
What themes of horror/psychological thrillers do you enjoy the most?: With Genji I'd love to see what happens if his gear wears down, or is something like all mechanical things shut down sorta deal, to see how he deals with a moment close to death. I also like the idea of facing fears in general. Facing inner demons. Drowning. Burning to death. Having to face your inner self. For Genji, having to be an outsider in both the omnic world and the human world is something big, and i love playing with that too. Um, robot invasions too, or just electronics fighting their owners. Take things back to a none electronic state. See how people cope with that. Like, you could keep your toaster or you could wake up in the morning to your toaster trying to jump into the bath with you in spite. Throwing out all electronics and dealing with out for a while. Oh! also age changes that take him back to angry all the time would be fun.
